day 11
main cell 3
We have wheeled in a cart of seven books. Each of you choose one.
3 Almanacs
2 Atlases
2 Books of Arithmetic.
Enjoy -sgmbert
gimme an atlas! lol, i'm a geography geek. –brian
i will choose an almanac...i like knowing and looking up facts –michael
Im gonna take an almanac because i hate math, and atlases dont have much good to read –karen
I will gladly take a book of Arithmetic.. –becki
almanac please. –marylee
I'll take an atlas. That could be interesting! –matt
I'll take arithmetic...it's the least I could do for refusing my dare. –tiffany
Jeez I don't think you had a choice there.. -becki
private cell
Thank you very much. This is NOT what I was expecting to say the least, but I truly appreciate the favor.:D –marylee
Well howdy ML. I'm not sure why I'm here, but I am...so what do you suggest we talk about? –matt
Actually we are kinda an odd couple here but we could share some info if you are up for it, may not get a chance like this again. –marylee
chall board a
The answers to these five questions will, when applied to the below formulas, create two numeric values you can provide to team 3. Question A 1889-1665 = 224 thats number A guys... could someone check me on the stairs thing though? I was on the towers official site, but the way they worded it was weird and made me think there might be more stairs...but yeah thats what i got for A –karen
Counting from the ground, there are 347 steps to the first level, 674 steps to the second level, and 1,710 steps to the small platform on the top of the tower. I copied that directly from a site about all the facts of ET -marylee
weird...that makes it a negative # -karen
fourth smallest country is Tuvalu.
I am an imbecile when it comes to math, so the pattern is a mystery to me and i cant find a thing about Sanborn's questions anwhere. I know i heard the sanborn thing before, but i dont remember off the top of my head...for some reason i think it was some really easy simple word though -karen
I think Sanborn is David Sanborn....with a gold album in 1988 called Close up but still working on the question deal. –marylee
and tuvalu in square miles I made a mistake and found it to be 9 square miles large...sorry. and the new answer is: 921600 –michael
If this had been released as an EP of the first five tracks and "You are Everything" this would have been hailed as a masterpiece. As it is, it's a very good album and showcases an artist at near the peak of his well respected talents. –marylee
My original thought was that sanborn was some sorta literary thing... not so much a pop culture reference...but apparently not since all ive found are david and john sanborn like you have, and some sorta machine named a sanborn... :/ -karen
I am getting so sick of the sanborns.........worse than the ozbournes! no luck yet –marylee
YOU aren't going to BELIEVE this.....I have on my nightstand a book by John Sanford. He writes the "Prey" novels. Mortal Prey is the one I am reading now! (and I am half way thru it) . Wonder if he won anything in 1988,. God I am brain dead! SO MAYBE JOHN CAMP WROTE THE MASTERPIECE IN 1988...?? –marylee
i keep thinking masterpieces and the only thing i keep coming up with is something art related....but i guess the definition of masterpiece is pretty open. this is frustrating! –michael
Im going to try to hit up my school library later, and see if there are any books on Sanborn that might match up with what we need –Karen
I am glad I already said I wanted the alliance with you. Matt and Tiff are definately in an alliance so I hope one of them goes this time...maybe you could pick both of them as snitch. I have my suspicions about Tiffany. I cannot believe she did that after all the guts you had to agree to give exemptions to others and not yourself. She is royally pissing me off anyway. God was I that immature at her age? ok...so, we are in the challenge and looking for something related to a person named sanborn. and initially, that is what mary lee is finding. But then, she starts putting up these links relating to a person named sanFORD. does she think I wont notice? pretty dang suspicious if you ask me... the only thing holding me back from fully thinking it is her is the fact that she just seems to be trying too hard. –michael (confessional)
Surprisingly, I am still here after the first execution. Well not surprisingly, actually, since Michael did not nominate me...but I am certain I will be the one to go this next week. Becki is the snitch and she and I have little to no relationship. I guess I could try my best to offer her a deal like I did with Michael, but part of me doubts she will take it. I am now in the Private cell with Mary Lee, who I do not particularly like or trust. –matt (confessional)

On a note about the cybermole, I am thinking Tiffany is a good candidate as she isn't around and doesn't give out a lot of information. –marylee
As much as I love her, I don't trust her, LOL. –matt
Michael nailed it when he nominated her as the snitch, that she is most likely much smarter than she lets on. She seems like a great person and I hope I get to know her better, but I will be wary as far as trusting her is concerned. –matt
I think this is a great game and I am glad I decided to play (not to mention that I was chosen). I am going back and forth with mole being female. I went female because of the odds but dunno now that Karen is gone. –marylee
I also think the Mole could be female...although I am suspicious of the other gents as well, since Michael and Brian both seem to be really, super intelligent. I went with my gut on the quiz, not sure how well that served me since I was not eligible for execution. –matt
Yea, you know, I hadn't thought of it that way but not taking the quiz and seeing that you are still in based on quiz answers, may be a disadvantage. –marylee
chall board B
You must deduce the question(s) below and its solution(s) which will create a numeric value you can provide to team 3.
ANEHT FFOEM OCEVI IRTNU NACSE ERCEB UDETA AGNIS EHTLL ETTEL LEBSR IF.WO EHTDN ERDDA TOTSS ERIEH SSABM NISEI IHSAW NOTGN USDNA HTPUM ULAVE TFOSE BRIEH IDLIU MUNGN .SREB any clues? i don't even know who's working with me, and if i did i couldn't address you by name anyway! all i see is 28 5 letter arrangements with the line of 30 letters below. I'm assuming it might have something to do with the atlas because of what i chose earlier. don't know how that will make a question or 2 to answer -brian
I am working with you. Let me see what's going on before I post and sound like a moron. –matt
I'm sure i'm a moron, but i was trying to figure something out for an hour, and i can't see anything in this. I'm sure it's probably something that afterwords we'll be like "duh" but uggghhh. I even tried to decipher it like a cryptogram, but that didn' work since they're all 5 letters long. and what's with that line of alphabet at the bottom? grrr. –brian
I'm not getting it, either. How dumb am I? –matt
well you can't be any dumber than me! LOL this is impossible! we have nothing to pass to the next group. -brian
Formula 1: A x ( B + C )
Formula 2: D – E
What value do you get when you subtract the number of steps in the Eiffel Tower from the year it was built?
Question B
How many letters are in the longest word used in a Shakespeare play?
Question C
What is the next term in this sequence: 52,54,57,55,61,34,28,36,41,63,68,35,63,??
Question D
Everyone knows that Vatican City is the smallest country in the world….but how large, in square rods, is the fourth smallest?
Question E
Sanborn portrayed four questions in his hidden masterpiece revealed in Nov. 1988. How many characters, including punctuation, are contained within the first question? –sgmbert
27 letters in the shakespeare word...and someone might want to check this out, but Tuvalu is 10.8 square miles...and i found a web site that converted it to sqare rods, giving me 1105920. –michael
I really like Student Karen, she seems to be a little like us, rebel at heart. Matt is a definate possibility . I also wouldn't put cheating above him. If you need to put me up ...feel free, I won't take it personally. –marylee (msg to becki)
