::frequently asked questions::
1. What exactly is 'the cybermole project'? |
The cybermole project is an online rendition of the popular television series 'the mole'. It is not an exect copy of the game and utilizes original elements and missions to separate itself from other projects. It began in the winter of 2001 and has continued on until today. |

2. Are you serious? Do they really win $250? Where does that come from? |
Yes, the winner of the entire project can be awarded up to $250 real US dollars (or Euro/Aus$ equivalency). The entire jackpot is earned if every single task is completed successfully. However, with the cybermole on tow, this is normally more difficult than it sounds. To receive the money and be eligible for prizes, you must be willing to submit your mailing address (which will be disregarded once you the project has finished) and produce a photocopy of one form of picture identification. The funding for this project comes PRIMARILY from the executive producers themselves (99.5%). This includes the jackpot, postage, consolation prizes, printing costs, any PO Box fees (for contestants that do not wish to reveal their actual home/work address), any scanning fees for those that do not have access to digital sources and any other fees incurred. We have also received less than 0.5% of the total funding through donations and the online store. The hosts are VERY dedicated to the game and put in at least hundreds of hours planning, hosting and then editing this project - this is not a SECOND JOB to them, this is hosting for the enjoyment of hosting. |

3. How can I become a part of 'the cybermole project'? |
There are two ways to participate in the cybermole project. You can either apply as a player, or you can apply to assist in production of the project. Both opportunities are available at specific times only. Casting to be a player (or cybermole) is usually announced via this webpage, however due to the priorities of axthemole it is most likely than no new casting sessions will be held for new players. Although no new casting sessions will be held for new players, it is possible that ORG veterans may be asked for a future production. Those interested in being on the production side of the project should realize that once you become involved in production, you are no longer eligible to participate as a player in any future cybeteur productions (the production company of 'the cybermole project'). But for those interested, simply email cybermoleproducers@yahoo.com and tell us what you're interested in doing. |

4. How does 'the cybermole project' work? What are the rules and how does one win? |
For the most specific details, you can always read the official rules. If you are not familiar with the television show, this is the general outline (not an exhaustive or restrictive resource): 10 or so players are selected in the beginning of the game. One of them has been preselected by the show's producers to play the role of the mole/saboteur. This person's primary job is to sabotage the challenges to prevent the team from accumulating too much money. The secondary task is to remain undetected by the other players. During each episode, the team attempts challenge(s) to gain money, exemptions or other resources. At the end of the episode, all players take an execution quiz. This quiz tests players on their knowledge of the saboteur. Questions range from 'What is the gender of the cybermole?' to 'In which position did the cybermole post his/her message in the typing challenge?'. Once the deadline is completed and players have completed their execution quizzes, the results are tabulated. The player that answered the least amount of correct questions is subsequently eliminated/executed from further gameplay. In the case of a tie, one of the following methods is used (depending on the game): the player that submitted his/her quiz last, the player that utilized the most time to submit his/her quiz, or the player that answered the most questions that were of multiple choice format (reciprocal method). This continues on each episode until three players remain. They then take a final execution quiz. One of these three players is the saboteur and his/her results do not count. One player has answered more correct answers than the other player and has thus won the game. This champion wins a jackpot or bragging rights. |

5. What is an X-quiz and what is an XX? What is an interrogation and the snitch? |
X-quiz is the shorthand term for eXecution Quiz. The execution quiz is usually administered at the end of every episode. The results from the execution quiz determine which player is eliminated at the end of the current episode. The XX is shorthand for Execution Quiz Exemption. This is usually awarded or won by a player that completes a specific and unique task that round. In the cybermole project, the exemption only prevents a player from being eliminated that round; it will no longer exempt a player from submitting an execution quiz. The interrogation is the codeword for the Xquiz in series three. The snitch - is a position/gameplay element that was added as the grand twist for cmpiii. The snitch is responsible each episode to select the persons that would be eligible for execution/release each episode. However, the snitch had an added stigman in that s/he was also available for execution/release. Therefore, the snitch rats out fellow prisoners but at expense to him/herself. There were no exemptions per se due to this unique twist. |

6. What are some features of 'the cybermole project's' gameplay? |
'The cybermole project' features a main chat board/room, hotel rooms, confessionals, interviews, roundtable discussions and a private messaging system. Hotel rooms separate players into smaller, more intimate groups to allow each other to get to know each other better. Confessionals allow the players to reveal their thoughts and emotions through a secure channel. Other players are normally not allowed access to the confessionals during the filming of the project. Confessionals are much like journal/diary entries. Interviews are conducted each episode and also after a player is executed. Roundtable discussions are topics usually based on hot topics or current events which allow the players to talk with each other about their own views and morals. The private messaging system allows players to send a limited amount of messages to each other during the episode. It allows one on one discussion to share thoughts, suspicions and alliances. However, gameplay is not limited to the above description and is subject to change for future productions. |
7. What are individual penalties during gameplay? How do they get them? |
Individual penalties occur when a player does not meet the pre-agreed requirements per episode as declared in their contract. A player is normally required to submit two confessionals, one interview, one execution quiz and post in main chat at least once per episode. When a player does not satisfy one of the requirements, a penalty is given. Penalties are given through the form of execution quiz question deductions. A deduction does not deduct from a player's score on the execution quiz. A die is rolled to determine the question number(s) that will be scored incorrect for the specific execution quiz. If a player had already answered the question incorrectly, it makes no difference. However, if a player had already answererd the selected question correctly, it will then be scored as incorrect. Deductions may not even make a difference at all, or it may cause a premature elimination. Deductions carry through all execution quizzes and are cumulative. |

8. I would like to apply but I will only play if I am selected as the cybermole. What are my chances? |
Frankly, nearly 80% or more of all applicants apply with intention to be the cybermole, or at least that many apply to have a chance to play the title role. However only one person can be chosen. Your chances will be higher if you apply as a player first or only as a player, as compromise is an important factor to be chosen as one of the finalists. Secondly, unless a miracle occurs and axthemole has unlimited free time to produce another project OR unless a seasoned host/producer (or previous affiliate of the cybermole project series) would like to take over the series, it looks heaviliy unlikely that casting will begin for a future project. So a miracle occurred, we're casting for the next series. |
9. I heard that cybermoleproject3 strays from its original gameplay concept, is this true? |
To keep the cybermole project fresh, new elements/challenges/rewards/twists/punishments were brought into gameplay. Furthermore, we upped intensity rating three fold to match the original intention of the series. The original concept of cybermoleproject1 was to make a psychology experiment of the players with the cybermole controlling everything behind the scenes - a mad scientist and guineau pigs to say the least. This unfortunately did not happen to the extent that axthemole had desired. With a new game atmosphere (combination of shows) that allows nasty tricks/twists to occur, the producers challenged the players to the point where they [producers] became disgusted with what they had done. The cybermole project also tends to follow a theme, this series developed a very distinct theme and followed it entirely through. CMP1 followed the "and there were none..." agatha christie theme whereas CMP2 followed a CIA angency theme. |
10. Why must a person be removed/executed each episode? |
It makes the game more interesting. Furthermore by paring down the cast, we get to know the remaining players more intimately. By the final episode, the reader should already know the remaining players very well. However in the initial episode, it is difficult to keep track of all players and to keep their personalities separate. Plus, when a player's only suspect is eliminated before s/he is, it makes the game more interesting. |

11. I've heard rumors of something called the cyberloft and I've heard rumors of an all-star cybermoleproject game? |
The cyberloft is a failed production which was intended to occur during the summer of 2002 directly post cmp2. However, many applicants failed to notice that applications always stated 'untitled cybeteur production application' and it never once mentioned anything regarding future cybermole projects. This caused many finalists in the casting process to abandon their application process immediately after hearing the words "congratulations on being selected for the cyberloft". The cyberloft was an idea that would have resulted in less planning and less maintenance for the producers. It was thought that by taking a break from cybermoleproject, the curse of the horrible third series would occur because of lack of creativity. Instead, the producers took a few months, planned out incredible challenges/twists and recruited an amazing crew to consume themselves in the manifestation called "thecybermoleproject iii -- maximum security". The all-star game is a rumor that states that previous players and moles from the previous three series would reconnect and reconflict themselves with each other to discover who is the cybermole. |
